Maine Officials Investigate Illegal Moose Shooting

ROCKWOOD STRIP, Maine - An organization that works closely with the Maine Warden Service to catch game poachers is offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to those involved in illegally shooting a female moose to death in northern Maine.

The group, Maine Operation Game Thief, says Maine game wardens found the dead moose after receiving a report that a carcass had been discovered hidden by tree boughs on 12 Mile Bog Road in Rockwood Strip T2R1 NBKP.  That's located in zone 8, where no permits for cow moose were issued for this year's October moose hunt.

The Maine Warden Service is asking anyone with information about the case to contact Maine Operation Game Thief or the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office. Tipsters calling Maine Operation Game Thief can remain anonymous, state officials say.
