PORTLAND, Maine - The U.S. Coast Guard is warning boaters and paddlers that the water is still plenty cold, despite the relatively balmy weather.
The forecast calls for temperatures to hit 60 in southern Maine on Thursday, but Coast Guard Petty Officer Cynthia Oldham says water temperatures are dangerously cold.
"It's definitely too cold to be out on the water without the proper safety gear and equipment that you need," Oldham says.
Oldham says life jackets should be worn over some kind of survival suit. And she says boaters should file a float plan with someone who knows when they're leaving, where they're going and when they plan to be back.
