LePage Pushes for Mandatory Sentencing in Domestic Violence Cases

AUGUSTA, Maine - Gov. Paul LePage says Maine needs to do more to combat domestic violence.

At a press conference at the Blaine House Tuesday, LePage said he would like the state to enact mandatory sentencing laws.

"I think we've got to prevent lawyers and judges to plead down domestic violence," LePage said. "If you plead it down, it doesn't do anything to solve it."

After LePage's remarks, Ernie Boch of Subaru of New England, which has locations in Maine, presented the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence with a $25,000 check to support its prevention efforts.
