PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Ice Arena will now bear the name of the politician who fought for it to be built.
The Portland Press Herald reports the 30-year-old arena will be renamed after former mayor and city councilor William B. Troubh.
Troubh died last year and was the first president of the Portland Middle School Hockey Association. He met with community groups to build support for the ice arena, which city officials say was unpopular at the time it was proposed. It now houses open skating, lessons, ice shows and other events.
Portland City Council unanimously approved the name change on Monday.
