AUGUSTA, Maine - Maine new Legislature will take office next week, but the outgoing members of the Legislature's Veterans and Legal Affairs committee plan to meet again to try and settle on legislation overhauling the state's process for licensing casinos.
"The discussion today showed some differences between everybody - we still have a lot of unanswered questions," says Ellsworth Democratic Rep. Louis Luchini, who co-chairs the committee. "I think we will look to White Sands for some answers on a couple of things. We are going to have to talk it out and see if we can come to some agreement."
The panel is working with a consulting firm, White Sands, that provided information on possible locations and licensing systems for additional casinos in the state. They concluded the state could have as many as four new casinos of differing sizes and in different parts of the state.
