City Boards Up 2nd Building Owned by Noyes Street Landlord

PORTLAND, Maine - A Dartmouth Street property owned by Portland landlord Greg Nisbet has been boarded up and posted by city inspectors, following a court hearing to grant a temporary restraining order, or  TRO.

A District Court judge approved the TRO and a temporary injunction following complaints from the city that the building was unsafe.

Nisbet, who was landlord of the Noyes Street apartment building where six people died in a fire in November, was told by city officials Friday that the nearby Dartmouth Street property he also owns was unfit for habitation.

"Right now, no one is allowed to be living in that building until he corrects the violations," says city spokesperson Jessica Grondin.  Those violations include a lack of heat and running water at the property.

Grondin says Nisbet also faces legal action from the city over alleged improper use of the building.
