BANGOR, Maine - A midday fire at John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor is now under control.
There were no students in the building, which is closed for vacation this week
Bangor Fire Chief Tom Higgins says one firefighter had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance, after part of a ceiling fell in on him.
"He was conscious and alert when he left. So, we're hoping for the best for him," Higgins says. "I believe he's up at the hospital, doing x-rays and under good treatment up there."
It took roughly 50 firefighters from Bangor and surrounding communities to contain the blaze.
The fire began along the edge of the roof, on the fourth floor, and quickly spread, forcing firefighters to battle it from both sides
