PORTLAND, Maine - Officials in Maine's largest city say a snow dump near the Portland International Jetport is nearing the point where it could interfere with planes taking off and landing.
WCSH-TV reports Portland's primary snow dump is near capacity and officials are opening a second dump. Jetport Director Paul Bradbury says the Federal Aviation Administration sets up height limits around airports. The regulations are in place more for smaller planes than larger jets.
Portland officials say the city will start unloading elsewhere. They say it is the first time the city has had to use space off Riverside Street for snow.
Portland Public Services Director Mike Bobinsky says high snow near the airport is a concern for pilots because it "could affect their instrumentation as they land.''
