Portland Jetport to Conduct Disaster Training Exercise

PORTLAND, Maine - Motorists traveling near the Portland International Jetport Saturday morning should expect some traffic congestion as the jetport conducts a live training, mass casualty exercise.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires that the jetport undertake a full-scale training exercise every three years. City of Portland spokesperson Jessica Grondin says that this year's scenario will test first responders and local hospitals response to a mock incident involving a commercial airplane with 50 passengers.

"So there'll be about 75 firefighters from across Cumberland County," Grondin says, "as well as area hospitals, the Red Cross and private entities that will help us carry out the training."

Grondin says operations at the airport will continue as usual and will not be negatively affected by the training.
