Maine Groups Launch New Coalition to Urge 'No' Vote on GOP Health Care Bill

PORTLAND, Maine - A coalition of Maine individuals and organizations Wednesday launched a "Together for Medicaid" campaign to urge Congress to vote against the American Health Care Act.

Robyn Merrill of Maine Equal Justice Partners says the Republican bill to replace the Affordable Care Act would eventually result in a $1 billion loss to the state's Medicaid program, "and would cost tens of thousands of people their health care coverage.  And we know the populations who are most reliant on the Medicaid program would be most at risk: older people, people with disabilities, children."

The U.S. House is scheduled to vote on the bill Thursday.  Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree, of Maine's 1st District, opposes it.  A spokesman for Bruce Poliquin says the Republican 2nd District representative is carefully studying the bill.
