PORTLAND, Maine - Democratic U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree has easily won election to her fourth term in a low-key campaign in Maine's 1st Congressional District.

Pingree had faced challenges from Republican Issac Misiuk and independent Richard Murphy. Misiuk received little financial help from his party. Murphy pledged to defend the U.S. Constitution.

Pingree is a self-proclaimed progressive who represents the more liberal of the state's two congressional districts. Two years ago, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi appointed her to a seat on the House Appropriations Committee.
