WASHINGTON - Maine Sen. Angus King, joined by Virginia Sen. Mark Warner in a conference call, told reporters the United States should develop the ability to launch its own cyber-attacks against nations that attack or facilitate attacks on the United States.
"We need to have some kind of deterrent so that if nation states know if they attack us in this way, that something bad that is going to happen to their cyber infrastructure," King said.
King and Warner are leading an effort to restore funding for cyber-defense programs that are in jeopardy because of the automatic budget cuts under the sequester process.
Both senators say a strong defense against cyber-attacks should be bolstered by the ability to strike back at state sponsored cyber-attacks on the U.S.
