Wife of Late Sanford Representative to Run for His Seat

SPRINGVALE, Maine — The wife of a former Maine House representative says she will run to fill the seat left open by his death last month.

Jean Noon said Tuesday that she wants to continue the work that her late husband, Democratic Rep. Bill Noon, started in service to his community and state.

Bill Noon, who had been diagnosed with a rare type of t-cell lymphoma in 2014, died in July. He was 66.

Jean Noon is an organic sheep farmer. She also worked in local public schools for 13 years as an art teacher. She lives in Springvale, a village in the city of Sanford.

The Maine Democratic Party says local Democrats will caucus to choose a candidate. A date for a special election has not been set.
