The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Maine increased by 14 Sunday, to a total of 470, according to the state Center for Disease Control. No new deaths were reported.
There have been 10 deaths in the state attributed to the virus. Eighty-six individuals are currently being hospitalized. Cumberland County is the county with the highest number of cases, with 238 confirmed cases, 7 more than Saturday. Piscataquis County remains the only Maine county with no confirmed cases. CDC officials say their numbers likely underrepresent the true number of cases of COVID-19 in Maine, since not all individuals with symptoms are being tested.
Saturday, President Donald Trump approved a major disaster declaration in Maine, which will free up federal funding assistance to the state's efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic. According to a press release from Gov. Janet Mills' office, the designation is intended for public assistance "which means that State agencies and municipalities in all of Maine’s 16 counties will be reimbursed for 75 percent of approved costs associated with their COVID-19 response."
