AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Governor Paul LePage says the Paris attacks demonstrate that terrorism is still alive and well across the world.
LePage who was was lately in Boston for a New England energy summit as keynote speaker, was with Quebec premier Philippe Couillard when he first heard of the half dozen terrorist attacks across Paris Friday night.
"It was just astronomical...silence." LePage said on Saturday, as he and First Lady Ann LePage conducted their annual holiday food drive at the Blaine House. "My heart goes out, my prayers go out to all the French people and their families but we need to tell our leaders the war on terrorism is not over."
The Governor said that the world needs to unite to fight terrorists wherever they are in the world, and that the fight is ongoing.
Friday, some 129 people were killed in several separate terrorist attacks throughout Paris. Scores of others were injured. Maine's Congressional delegation has expressed shock and sorrow over the attacks. The University of Maine has also issued a statement to say that they do not believe any U Maine students or faculty were harmed in the attacks.
