Maine Marijuana Testing Lab Seeks State Certification For Recreational Market

A Kennebunk lab that tests marijuana in Maine and New Hampshire has become the first to apply for state certification to test marijuana for Maine’s legal recreational market.

Nelson Analytical lab director Lorri Maling says that the company already has international certification to test marijuana.

“We already had our quality system in place, so we sent in our application to Maine CDC, and they’re reviewing our application,” she says. “In Maine, for adult use, they require Maine certification as well, so that is why the application came in.”

Maling says testing marijuana for private clients makes up a good part of the Kennebunk lab’s business, so it made sense for the company to apply for the certification for state testing. She says she hopes other labs also apply.

“There’s gonna be a lot of people looking to set up stores and that kind of thing, and the more labs we have in Maine the better. Hopefully there’s some more people coming into the market, because Maine’s huge,” she says.

The state started taking applications for testing certification last month.
