Another 42 cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in Maine overnight, but no new deaths from the disease. The total number of cases since the pandemic's onset now stands at 2,878, and the death tally at 102.That's according to new figures the Maine Center for Disease Control released Thursday. They show that 2,300 people have recovered from the illness, 25 more than Wednesday, leaving 476 active cases in Maine.
Thirty-two of the new cases are in Cumberland County, where restrictions on indoor dining and other emergency measures were lifted Wednesday. Another seven of the new cases were diagnosed in Androscoggin County, where similar restrictions were also lifted Wednesday.
No new hospitalizations were reported, keeping the number of those who have been hospitalized sometime during their illness stable at 323, while the number of patients on ventilators fell from five to four.
The CDC is not planning a media briefing on the new figures. The agency announced this week that it will now provide briefings only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
