PORTLAND, Maine - Maine Medical Center's parent company is teaming up with one of the nation's foremost cancer specialty organizations to improve access to cancer care in northern New England.
MaineHealth has formed a partnership with Boston's Dana-Farber Caner Institute which will give cancer patients at the 11 MaineHealth member and affiliated hospitals streamlined access to Dana-Farber for complex specialty care and clinical trials.
Dr. Scot Remick, physician leader of oncology at MMC, praised the partnership. "This is a win-win for us and, I think, for Dana-Farber, most importantly as this matures for patients and families if they're diagnosed with cancer or dealing with cancer illness. It's a very powerful new partnership."
Dana-Farber will provide consultation, training and other services to physicians and their teams through the MaineHealth system.
The institutions says that MaineHealth and Dana-Farber will also work together to expand or develop a wide range of survivorship, second-opinion, education and personalized medicine initiatives offered by MaineHealth.
