Known for his critical thinking and long-standing opposition to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Sergei Medvedev discusses Russian imperialism, authoritarianism, militarism, and the reasons behind the war in Ukraine, which poses a threat to the current world order.
Sergei Medvedev is a Russian-born author, historian, and political scientist. His 2020 book, “The Return of the Russian Leviathan,” investigates Russia’s relapse into imperialism and militarism and was awarded the 2020 Pushkin House Russian Book Prize. In his most recent book, “A War Made in Russia,” Medvedev argues that Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine was motivated not only by Putin’s political aspirations, but by Russia’s history of authoritarianism and imperialism.
