WASHINGTON — The Senate Armed Services Committee is holding hearings on developing threats to national security, and several experts talked about hot spots around the world from the Middle East to the Ukraine.
But Maine Sen. Angus King says he worries about North Korea.
"To me the most serious threat is capability plus will, and what makes me lose sleep is North Korea," he says. "They certainly are developing the capability and their will is unpredictable."
King says another concern of his is how long it takes for the United States to develop new weapons and put them in the field for use. He says a new ship can take more than a decade to develop as can a new aircraft. He says that is just too long and is a threat to national security.
"We have to be able to field new technologies faster," King says. "Cost is obviously a question. But to talk about a new bomber that won't be out for 10-12 years, if then. We have to talk about this issue."
