Maine's whitewater kayak championships take place on the Kennebec and the Penobscot Rivers in August. But, inspired by iconic rapids and invigorated by chilly Maine waters, whitewater kayak race competitors brave streams and rivers across Maine as early as April for practice.
In the Borealis story, get to know some of our state's competitive whitewater kayak racers, learn why many racers started out as whitewater rafting guides, and get a taste of the adrenaline that is motivating them to grow the whitewater kayaking scene in Maine with an effort to build a major whitewater venue in Skowhegan.
Borealis is made possible by the generous support of our Production Sponsors, The Nature Conservancy in Maine and Poland Spring.
And by our Broadcast Sponsors, Evergreen Home Performance, Conservation Law Foundation, and the Maine Office of Tourism.
