ONCE UPON A HILL IN MAINE: The Pedro Tovookan Parris Story
The story of former slave Pedro Tovookan Parris, who made his way from Brazil to Paris Hill, will be presented by internationally known storyteller Antonio Rocha at the First Baptist Church of Paris July 16. Rocha, originally from Brazil and now living in Maine, found Parris' grave on Paris Hill last fall and has been preparing a performance since, using mime, narration, and song. Rocha studied under Tony Montanaro. The event is coordinated by PCHS and the Paris Hill Historic Preservation Foundation, and is free to the public. It starts at 7 p.m. (500 Paris Hill Rd.).
