Perennials for Butterflies and Hummingbirds
The Rockport Public Library announces a new horticulture series in partnership with Merryspring Nature Center. In monthly talks from March through May, Merryspring Nature Center Program Director (and Maine Master Gardener Volunteer) John Fromer will offer free gardening classes at the Rockport Library covering a variety of topics and culminating in a special tour on Merryspring’s flower gardens in mid-June.
The series will kick off on Wednesday, Mar. 5, at 1 p.m. in the library’s lower level with a presentation entitled, “Perennials for Butterflies & Hummingbirds.” Fromer will cover specific varieties of plants, as well as how to arrange and grow them in a manner that supports butterfly and hummingbird populations.
The Mission of Merryspring Nature Center mission is to practice, teach and advocate sound principles of ecology, conservation and horticulture in order to protect the natural environment, and to provide natural landscapes and cultivated areas for public enjoyment.
