Violin and Organ Concert at Broad Bay Congregational in Waldoboro
Violinist Anatole Wieck and organist Kevin Birch will perform a concert of music for violin and organ at Broad Bay Congregational Church on 941 Main Street in Waldoboro, on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, at 7PM.
They will also play music written for viola d’Amore (a Renaissance instrument with seven, not five, strings, that creates a sweet, resonant sound) and virginal (a pre-harpsichord, Elizabethan keyboard that sits on a table or stand in which the keys pluck the strings, making bright, flute-like tones).
Anatole Wieck was born in Latvia and studied at Julliard in New York City. He has performed and conducted in Europe and North and South America and participated in numerous music festivals. Since 1986 he has taught at the University of Maine and conducted the Maine Orchestra.
Dr. Kevin Birch studied at the New England Conservatory, then in Amsterdam where he earned advanced degrees and since, performing solo recitals in the US, Europe and South American. One of his passions are the old organs of Maine. He was key to helping restore Broad Bay’s E. & G.G. Hook & Hastings Organ built in 1875. As such, he shaped this series of concerts to celebrate the Waldoboro organ’s 150th anniversary.
