Zenith Ensemble Presents “Trailblazing Voices of the Baroque”
Music lovers in Maine are in for a treat at 4pm on Sunday, September 21st as Zenith Ensemble brings a vibrant afternoon of beautiful Baroque music to Saint Mary's Episcopal Church in Falmouth. Founded in 2018 and made up of some of the finest professional musicians in the country, Zenith Ensemble presents unforgettable, world-class vocal music to communities throughout Maine. .
This ambitious concert will feature three professional singers and two professional players who hail from across the Northeast, including founder and artistic director of Zenith Ensemble, Nacole Palmer. “We are thrilled to bring this charismatic and profoundly beautiful program to our audience," says Palmer. "Together, the listeners and singers alike will go on an intimate journey of joy, sorrow, hopefulness, and a heartfelt search for redemption.”
A celebration of the great masters of the Baroque, the concert will feature the floridity of Claudio Monteverdi's writing for solo voice alongside the impassioned duets of Barbara Strozzi and Chiara Margarita Cozzolani - both striking for their lyrical beauty and sense of playfulness. Elisabeth Jacque de la Guerre's hauntingly lovely Prelude for solo harpsichord will usher the audience into the intimate and emotionally riveting world of her cantata, Esther, which tells the story of the Biblical heroine and her extraordinary acts of bravery. From there, the concert will feature the breathtaking vocal trios of Luzzascho Luzzaschi, renowned for his virtuosic and masterful settings for the female voice, and the lush soundscape of Vivaldi's Sonata a violincello: the depth and serenity of his Largo movement inspires great calm, while the infectious joy of the Allegro is sure to have the audience dancing in their seats.
Other works on the program include Guiseppe Colombi's Ciaccona and the charming Advent carol, There is No Rose.
