Jan 21 Wednesday
Join us at Libby Library in OOB on Wednesday, January 21st at 10:00 am for a Mindfulness Workshop with Heidi Whelan of Balance & Bloom Mindfulness. This program has limited space, so registration is required. You can sign up in person at the library or by giving us a call at (207)934-4351.
Join us for an experiential class on mindfulness. Mindfulness teacher, Heidi Whelan, will guide us through several mindfulness practices such as: awareness of breath and body meditation, body scan, and walking meditation. Information will be presented on how the brain perceives stress and how mindfulness can interrupt the fight and flight responses that keeps us in a reactive state. Group discussion time is built into the program so we can all share our experience with the practices.
Have you ever struggled with making windows, doors and buildings look right in your drawings and paintings?
This four-session course will explain the simple system discovered in the Renaissance, called Linear Perspective, that will add to your tool kit to create more accurate drawings and paintings, especially of the built environment. The idea that things appear to be smaller in the distance, is deceptively simple.
Instructors Joan Vienot and Rick Osann will explain the system and how to apply it to your existing drawing skills through demonstration and mentored practice.
About the Instructors:
Rick Osann has been painting in watercolor since the early 1970’s. After various careers as a professional Scenic Artist working for stage, film & TV in New York City, and teaching art/theatre/film at Bonny Eagle High School in southern Maine, Rick is now happily focusing on his painting in Bar Harbor, Maine. Rick provides instruction in painting and drawing.
Joan Vienot received state teacher certification in Fine Art from the University of Northern Colorado. She taught art in a public high school in Colorado for 3 years. She moved to Northwest Florida, where she enjoyed a business career, and also taught numerous art classes and workshops to adults. In 2022 Joan moved to Maine to paint the rocky coastline. Joan offers instruction in drawing and plein air painting.
Formerly known as the Holiday Bazaar, Made is a curated seasonal marketplace that highlights the artistry and craftsmanship of Maine makers, offering visitors a unique selection of locally handmade goods.

Midcoast Senior College presents its free speaker series, Winter Wisdom, sponsored by The Highlands of Topsham. Experts recommend a healthy diet and ongoing exercise to enhance our well-being in the aging process, but what about the role of humor? We’ve all heard the saying “laughter is the best medicine,” but what is it about humor and laughter that makes us feel so good? Susan Flewelling Goran spent her 50-year nursing career caring for critically ill patients and their families as educator, director, author, and clinical specialist. A frequent speaker at regional, national, and international conferences, she was known for her use of humor and creativity for enhanced learning for both professional and lay audiences.
On Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 1 p.m., herbalist Mo Katz-Christy will teach a class entitled, “Demystifying Tea Blending.” Part science, part sensory exploration, Katz-Christy promises that the class will be as playful as it is educational. This free program is part of the library’s ongoing “foodie series,” and is sponsored by the Friends of the Rockport Public Library.
Katz-Christy will discuss a handful of common herbs for tea: their uses, flavors, energies, and what they add to a blend. Participants will smell each of the herbs and taste some as well, learning how the flavors combine and how they complement each other. The class will also explore different considerations for the process of making tea, including infusing versus boiling, water temperature, and infusion time.
Participants will leave the 90-minute workshop with personally crafted tea blend to take home. Limited to 20 participants. Please call the Rockport Public Library at 207-236-3642 to reserve a spot.
Mo Katz-Christy (they/them) graduated from a three-year clinical herbalism program at the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism in 2022. They work one-on-one with clients to address root imbalances that cause dysregulation and to promote long-term healing. You can find out more about their work at mokatzchristy.com.
