A series of seven short fulldome films and a compiled feature film focusing on cultural and Indigenous astronomy. The project is an international collaboration that seeks to build cross-cultural connections and increase understanding of different Indigenous perspectives while demonstrating how our one sky connects us all.
Celebrate the (actual!) Appreciate a Dragon Day with artist William Roth, dragon aficionado, and author/illustrator of two graphic novels. Young artists will find their inner dragon through an expressive drawing exercise and discussion of dragon character story ideas - showing there is no one way to draw a dragon. Materials will be supplied, and roaring while drawing will be encouraged! You won't want to miss this third program in the Illustration Institute Great Slate of Programming series!

Learn more about Will RothWilliam Roth is a young graphic novelist and RISD alum working from Peaks Island in Casco Bay. He wrote and illustrated the webcomic Witch Heart and self-published it in book form while still in school. Most recently he wrote and illustrated Hindsight Foresight, published last January by VIZ Originals one-shots. While he authors future undisclosed graphic novels, he also works as a graphic designer and the assistant curator at the Illustration Institute, where he develops exhibitions about the art of illustration. William has led illustration workshops for children, teens, and adults across Maine.

The Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center invites you to an art opening on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 4 PM to 6 PM highlighting the works of Susan Beebe.

Back by popular demand, this will be Susan’s third show in the North Gallery at the Visitor’s Center and will feature paper mache sculpture, numerous paintings, and linoleum block prints.

Join us for a look at one of the top nocturnal predators! Learn how owls navigate the dark and sneak-up on their prey, and discover whooo is making that sound in the dark. While we learn we will be making s'mores by the fire. We will then take a look at what is an owl pellet and why owls make them. Then as the sun sets we will go out on the trail for a look at the night life and search for our feathered friends!

Speaker bio: Alicia Kennedy is a writer from Long Island. She is the author of the best-selling No Meat Required: The Cultural History and Culinary Future of Plant-Based Eating, and her memoir On Eating: The Making & Unmaking of My Appetites will be out in spring 2026. Her newsletter on food culture, politics, and media, From the Desk of Alicia Kennedy, is read by over 30,000 people weekly.
The 2026 Open Mic Season begins tonight. Doors for sign-ups open at 5:30pm and the mic goes live at 6pm. Bring a song, a poem, a comedy sketch or what-have-you (?) and gather with neighbors and friends in the upstairs bar area of the Opera House. Emcee: Eric Lowe. In an effort to allow as many people as possible to share their talent, mic time is limited to 10 minutes/2 songs. Depending upon how many sign-ups there are at the door, a second trip to the mic may be possible. Cold drinks for sale at the bar. Our volunteer Friends group will have homemade chili and cornbread, coffee & desserts for sale.
