South Windham Man Charged with Killing English Man Via Mailed Cyanide

SOUTH WINDHAM, Maine - Court records say a Maine man has been charged with killing an English man by mailing him poisonous potassium cynanide.

Papers filed with the U.S. District Court in Maine say Sidney Kilmartin sent the poison to Andrew Denton of Hull, England, in 2012, resulting in Denton's death. Kilmartin is charged with mailing injurious articles and mailing injurious articles resulting in death. The latter charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.

U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank says authorities arrested Kilmartin on Wednesday morning and he is in custody in Bangor. Frank says Kilmartin is due to make an initial court appearance Wednesday at U.S. District Court in Bangor.

An attorney with the Office of the Federal Defender says the office is not representing Kilmartin.
