PORTLAND, Maine - After eight residential burglaries in 10 days in Portland, an arrest has been made. Richard Coleman, 29, of Portland, has been charged in connection with two of the robberies.
Lt. James Sweatt of the Portland Police Department says Coleman was found with numerous stolen items, burglary tools and cocaine upon his arrest.
"The suspect was taking electronic devices, loose money, laptop computers," Lt. Sweatt says. "The drugs had, probably, a strong part in why he wanted to continue to burglarize. It's items he can take quickly, move into cash and then purchase narcotics."
Sweatt says the investigation continues into the other burglaries, and additional charges against Coleman are expected.
Police say that all burglaries took place during the daytime and all involved the suspect entering unlocked or open windows.
