The Maine Center for Disease Control is now testing for the novel coronavirus at its lab in Augusta.
The CDC says it began testing on Friday. Previously, the agency sent samples to the U.S. CDC lab.
The first round of results from the Augusta lab are expected Tuesday.
The state has the capacity to test up to 200 patients per day, and public officials say at this point, capacity far exceeds demand. Fewer than 100 individuals in Maine have so far met the criteria for testing.
As of late Monday, there have been no presumptive or positive cases of COVID-19 in Maine.
