MDI Hospital Says There Are Cases Of COVID-19 That Aren't Reflected In State Data

Mount Desert Island Hospital says there are cases of COVID-19 in its community that are not reflected in state data.

A notice on the hospital's website says that it has been receiving calls from out of state visitors who tested before traveling but received positive results after their arrival in Maine.

Because state reporting requirements don't capture these cases, the hospital says, it is offering contact tracing assistance to those who call.

A spokesperson for the Maine Center for Disease Control says some state health departments notify the agency about positive tests for people who travel here, and the agency urges all states to do so, as required by the U.S. CDC.

MDI is urging residents and visitors to remain vigilant with masking, distancing and handwashing.
