Maine's Department of Health and Human Services is offering temporary incentive payments to health care providers who treat children enrolled in MaineCare.
The payments are specifically targeted to well-child visits, dental care and vaccinations.
In a news release, DHHS says that childhood vaccinations have significantly declined during the pandemic, with Maine health providers ordering 47% fewer vaccines in April and May compared to the same months last year.
The state is using $1 million of existing general funds for the incentive payments. Federal matching funds will more than triple the dollars for the program.
