PORTLAND, Maine - The University of Maine System was today recognized by the federal government for its leadership in cyber-security education.
UMS says it's the first public university system in the nation to be designated by the National Security Agency as a Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
Speaking in Portland this morning at the University of Southern Maine's cyber-security lab, Maine's independent U.S. Sen. Angus King said there's a critical need for professionals to protect America's national information infrastructure. "The next Pearl Harbor will be a cyber attack," King said.
UMS says students at a number of UMaine campuses across the state can enroll in a first-of-its kind cyber-security degree program.
