PORTLAND, Maine - Maine fire officials say investigators have met with the district attorney to discuss possible charges against the owner of a Portland building where six people died in a November fire.
The cause of the fire was deemed accidental. The Portland Press Herald reports that city officials forwarded the case to the Cumberland County district attorney because they believed owner Gregory Nisbet operated the property as an illegal rooming house.
District Attorney Stephanie Anderson confirms she met with the fire officials, but says it could be weeks before she determines whether "criminal charges will be filed, and if so, what the charges will be.''
Nisbet did not return a reporter's phone call.
