STONINGTON, Maine - The Coast Guard is monitoring salvage efforts of a 42-foot fishing vessel that sank where it was moored, in the waters off Stonington Friday. A Coast Guard spokesperson says no one was aboard the Marley Gabriella, when it sank.
The vessel contained 700 pounds of diesel fuel when it went down in about 70 feet of water, causing seepage from its vents and a sheen on the surface. The vessel's owner was planning a salvage operation Saturday, involving divers, absorbent boom, and an attempt to re-float the vessel.
The Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment from Belfast is on hand to assist.
