WEST FORKS PLANTATION, Maine- A Maine man is dead after the commercial raft in which he was riding capsized. Officials with the Maine Warden Service say Richard Sanders, 67 , of York was on a guided rafting trip provided by North Country Rivers of Bingham, when he was thrown from the craft.
Five other passengers were also ejected from the craft, as well as the guide. The accident occurred on a stretch of the Dead River known as Mile Long Rapid. According to authorities, Sanders was submerged for several minutes before being pulled from the water by employees of the raft company, where attempts at resuscitation failed.
All passengers were wearing life jackets and helmets.
Wardens will continue to investigate the incident.
