AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ Maine officials are bracing for what could be a flood of new money rushing into the governor's race.
The Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices is meeting Wednesday to discuss Friday's ruling, which said that Eliot Cutler supporters can double their contributions to the independent gubernatorial candidate.
Executive Director Jonathan Wayne told reporters that the ruling may mean that all candidates will now be able to raise $3,000 from new donors.
An individual donor can currently give only $1,500 to party candidates after the June 10 primary. They can also donate up to that same amount before the primary.
Independent candidates were limited to collecting $1,500 total because they don't have a primary.
The commission will also discuss other ways to potentially deal with the ruling.
