LePage Says He Might Skip Debates

AUGUSTA, Maine - Maine Gov. Paul LePage says he's considering pulling out of debates that include Democrat Mike Michaud.

The Republican governor tells WMTW-TVthat he doesn't think he'll share the stage with Michaud "from here on out.'' LePage criticized Michaud for a not denouncing a TV ad from an outside group that accuses LePage of considering Social Security as welfare.

LePage's campaign said he sees no problem with going ahead with scheduled debates with independent candidate Eliot Cutler.

Michaud said in a statement that LePage is looking for a reason to dodge the six debates the candidates have agreed to. He says that LePage doesn't want to defend his "divisive and partisan record'' that has hurt Maine's economy.
