Michaud will Debate Cutler Without Gov. LePage

PORTLAND, Maine - Gubernatorial candidate Mike Michaud says he will debate independent Eliot Cutler one-on-one if Gov. Paul LePage refuses to participate.

Michaud had originally said he would only attend debates if the Republican governor was present. But the Democrat's campaign told WMTW-TV on Tuesday that he will participate in the debates even if LePage decides not to attend them.

LePage said on Monday that he is considering pulling out of all debates with Michaud because of a television advertisement from an outside group that he believes falsely attacks him.

Cutler said on Tuesday that Maine voters are "fed up with this silly, stupid game of chicken.''

All three candidates had originally agreed to six debates, with the first one schedule for Oct. 8.
