'Middle-Class First' Bus Makes Stop in Maine

PORTLAND, Maine - Democrats brought their "Put The Middle Class First" campaign bus to Portland today. Among those aboard, former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland. He told reporters and others in Monument Square that recovery from the Great Recession has, so far, only benefited a few.

"Ninety-five percent of all the income gains have gone to the top 1 percent of U.S. households," Strickland said. "And so the middle class in America is being squeezed today. And the middle class and working people in the great state of Maine are facing these challenges."

Strickland went on to introduce Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mike Michaud, who stressed it would take bi-partisanship to solve the problems facing the state.

Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Shenna Bellows also spoke, saying her opponent, Republican Sen. Susan Collins, had voted against raising the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, against a law that would have provided women with equal pay, and against the Affordable Care Act.
