Michaud Shifts Focus to Cutler as Race Heats Up

By Alanna Durkin, The Associated Press

HALLOWELL, Maine - As the race for Maine governor enters the final stretch, Democrat Mike Michaud is warning independent Eliot Cutler's supporters that they risk sending Republican Paul LePage back to the Blaine House for another four years.

Michaud has tried to ignore Cutler's presence in the race for months, stressing that it's a two-way race between him and LePage.

But his campaign is now running a new television ad featuring Mainers who voted for Cutler in 2010 but are now supporting Michaud because Maine "just can't afford four more years of Paul LePage.'' The message is repeated in new ads from pro-Michaud PAC, NextGen Climate.

Cutler said Michaud is getting desperate and must "go on the attack'' because voters didn't buy it when he pretended that it was a two-way race.
