AUGUSTA, Maine - The Legislature's Office of Program Evaluation and Government Accountability has released its narrowly-focused report on several issues at the Riverview Psychiatric Hospital.
Augusta Sen. Roger Katz co-chairs the Government Oversight Committee, which asked for the report. "There are some concerns about the extent to which the reporting of incidents involving patient abuse or neglect are getting up the chain of command."
Rep. Chuck Kruger, a Democrat from Thomaston, is the other committee co-chair. He says the scope of the study was set by the committee and did not look at issues such as the reasons for under-staffing at Riverview, and he predicts there will likely be further OPEGA investigations of facility.
The committee will hold a public hearing on the report next month.
