Student Called 'Idiot' says Maine Governor Has Pent Up Anger

FARMINGTON, Maine - A freshman psychology student who was called an idiot by Maine Gov. Paul LePage says the Republican chief executive has "a lot of pent up anger going on in there.''

Ally Hammond of Auburn tells the Sun Journal that she and student Nick Bray didn't think their actions were going to be disruptive when they quietly held signs at an event attended by LePage at the University of Maine at Farmington.

LePage saw the signs Wednesday and abruptly ended his address, calling the students "idiots.''

Hammond's sign read "LePage: Maine's shame.'' Bray's sign was fashioned as a report card that gave LePage an "F'' on environmental issues.

Both students are George Mitchell Scholars. Hammond, a self-proclaimed liberal, said she doesn't hate Republicans but finds LePage to be "rude.''
