House Endorses Poliquin's Iran Bill

AUGUSTA, Maine - The U.S. House has passed legislation sponsored by Maine 2nd District Rep. Bruce Poliquin requiring the U.S. Treasury to publish information on Iranian leaders' wealth and how they are using that wealth to promote terrorism.

The Iranian Leadership Asset Transparency Act, passed by a bipartisan vote of 282 to 143, would publicize the assets associated with members of Iran’s government leadership, including the Supreme Leader of Iran, members of the Council of Guardians, and the top military leaders, “their personal assets, how that money was acquired, and what it is being used for,” Poliquin says.

Under the bill, the U.S. Treasury would submit a report to Congress on the leaders' assets. The report would also be posted on the Treasury Department's website in English and the three main languages used in Iran.

The measure has not yet been scheduled for consideration in the Senate.
