PORTLAND, Maine - The Social Security Administration has released new rules that incorporate Sen. Angus King proposals to help better serve people with disabilities.
King says Maine residents who apply for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits have to wait an average of 13 months to get a hearing with the administration. He says a proposal incorporated into the new rules will help reduce those wait times.
King pushed for the changes last month. The rules were issued by the Social Security Administration last week.
The rules represent the end of a rulemaking process the administration had been working on to improve the process of reviewing applicants for assistance.
