Several law enforcement agencies went to Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ private residence in Bangor to investigate what is being called a “suspicious letter.”
Bangor police Sgt. Wade Betters says his agency was contacted just after 1:30 p.m. by U.S. Capital Police. While he says he can’t provide any information about the nature of the letter, he says there’s no ongoing threat.
“We have no information to suggest that anybody in the public or public at large or anybody is in any danger,” he says.
A spokeswoman says Collins’ husband was at the house now late Monday afternoon and that the senator was on her way home.
Betters says among agencies responding were the Bangor Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, the Bangor Fire Department, a hazmat team from Orono along with the U.S. Capital Police and the FBI.
