Portland Residents Vote To Expand Ranked-Choice Voting

The city where ranked-choice voting got its start in Maine is expanding the voting system to city council and school board races.

The voting method has been used to elect Portland's mayor since 2011. Residents on Tuesday voted overwhelmingly to expand to the new city races. The voting system lets voters rank all candidates on the ballot and allows multiple voting rounds to ensure a majority winner.
