Thousands Of Mainers Have Already Requested Absentee Ballots For November

Maine opened its online absentee ballot request form Monday morning, and the secretary of state’s office says thousands have already filled it out.

“At about 2:25 p.m. we’ve gotten over 6,000 requests for absentee ballots, which is a pretty impressive number,” says Maine Secretary of State Matt Dunlap. “It tells you people are really watching this election.”

Dunlap says the state expects absentee ballots to account for about 60 percent of the total cast here in November.

Voters without internet access or who would rather not request a ballot online can print one out and take it to their municipal clerk, or they can request a ballot through that office.

Absentee ballots won’t be mailed until early October, and Dunlap’s office is encouraging voters to return them, by mail or at their clerk’s office, as soon as possible.
