Maine To Ban Youth Tanning, Some Toxic Chemicals

AUGUSTA, Maine - Maine's Democratic governor has signed over two dozen bills into law ranging from an end to youth tanning to steps to ban toxic chemicals from food packaging. Gov. Janet Mills signed such bills into law Thursday as the legislative session winds down. The newly empowered Democratic-led Legislature has passed dozens of bills addressing health, education, abortion and tribal issues that failed under the Republican administration.

The latest bills include a bill to prohibit oil or natural gas exploration in or under Maine waters.

Other bills prevent the use of tanning beds for minors and another to require recovery residences to be equipped with naloxone.

Such laws would go into effect 90 days after the Legislature ends this month.
