Maine House Candidate Accused Of Fostering Hostile Workplace

PORTLAND, Maine - Former staffers say a candidate for the Maine House fostered a "hostile" and "abusive" work environment. Bangor Daily News reports that former staffers at Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine accuse Melanie Sachs of yelling at employees, getting angry when employees asked questions about their jobs, and cutting mental health benefits.

The former employees at the Portland-based office say that staff worked to never be alone with Sachs and would record their engagements.

In a written statement, Sachs said that it is "her practice as a professional" not to comment on personal matters and that she is "truly disappointed in a late, politically motivated effort to undermine the campaign."
